How To Make DIY LED Grow Lights

Author admin    Category Featured     Tags

DIY LED grow lightsDIY LED grow lights are among the best options if you want customized grow lights for your lights. Making your own LED fixtures is also easy as long as you have a rudimentary knowledge of electronics. If you want to build your own light fixtures but do not want to start from scratch, you can buy DIY kits, which already contains all the parts you need. You can create single bulb lights or multiple bulb systems and only need to spend as much as $30-$40 dollars in the process. With this kind of lighting system, you can expect your fixture to last for more than 100,000 hours of use using a third of the power usually eaten by conventional light sources.

Process

The simplest you can do is a system made of two LEDs and a standard sheet of plywood. Drill holes at the back of each light fixture and screw them to the sheet of plywood. Attach a hook to each corner of the plywood and string chains from one corner to the next to make two loops at both ends. Screw more hooks to the ceiling over the seedling or plant trays and hang the lights. You can use standard fluorescent lights for this project, which you can run 24 hours a day. You need to follow manufacturers’ instructions if you are using full spectrum bulbs, since these bulbs carry a more intense light. Putting them too close to the plants can burn them.

How to Make Your LED System More Efficient

To get the most out of your DIY LED grow lights you can enhance light reflection and increase heat by surrounding the plants in a white surface. You can do this by using masonite or whitewashed plywood. The white helps bounce light around, allowing the light to evenly spread out over the room. Even distribution makes plants healthier compared to when light only goes to one direction. Also, ensure that the lights are in the right distance from the plants depending on the type of bulbs you have. For example, if you are using 250-watt LED lights, fixture placement should be 8 inches from the nearest plant.
